JNV Tawang Students Learn ‘Seed to Sale’ Through Sweet Corn Activity
TAWANG, October 8:
Students of PM SHRI School Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Tawang, took part in an engaging Kaushal Bodh activity titled “From Seed to Sale”, combining agriculture, entrepreneurship and practical life skills.
The activity gave students hands-on experience in growing sweet corn in the school’s kitchen garden. They participated in preparing the soil, nurturing the plants, observing their growth and eventually harvesting the produce.
The learning continued after the harvest as students cooked the freshly collected sweet corn and sold it among their fellow students.
Through this process, they were introduced to value addition, pricing, customer interaction, teamwork and basic entrepreneurship.
The activity also helped students understand the importance of patience, responsibility, teamwork and caring for nature. It demonstrated how a school kitchen garden can become a practical learning space beyond the traditional classroom.
The programme was conducted under the supervision and guidance of Pappu Chaudhary, TGT (Art), who encouraged students throughout the different stages of the activity. His guidance helped them connect classroom concepts with real-life experiences.
Speaking about the initiative, Principal M. L. Meena emphasised the importance of experiential learning in developing practical skills among students.
He said the available campus space in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas can be effectively used for kitchen gardens, learning farms and other skill-based activities.
He noted that students can learn the complete journey of food production, from sowing and cultivation to harvesting, processing, value addition and marketing.
Such activities, he said, can make education more meaningful while encouraging self-reliance and productive use of school resources.
The “From Seed to Sale” activity also helped students develop creativity, problem-solving abilities, financial awareness and entrepreneurial thinking. By taking part in every stage, they experienced how a simple agricultural activity can become a valuable lesson in responsibility and enterprise.
The initiative reflected the spirit of “Learning by Doing” and experiential learning, while promoting awareness of agriculture, nutrition, sustainability and teamwork. It also encouraged students to appreciate the effort involved in producing and preparing food.
The activity marked a meaningful step towards nurturing skilled, confident and enterprising young learners at PM SHRI School JNV Tawang, while giving practical expression to the objectives of Kaushal Bodh.
