Tawang launches solid waste awareness drive

TAWANG, July 29: The Tawang District Administration on Wednesday organised an awareness programme at Old Market to promote the implementation of the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Guidelines 2026. The programme was attended by Town Magistrate Nawang Thutan, Women's Welfare Association (WWA), market welfare committees, officials of the Department of Urban Affairs, the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) operator, shopkeepers and local residents. The session focused on four-way waste segregation at source, covering biodegradable, recyclable, domestic hazardous and sanitary waste, while also explaining the responsibilities of Bulk Waste Generators under the new guidelines. Addressing the gathering, Nawang Thutan said effective waste management begins with individual responsibility.
