  WESSANG, September 15: The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), in collaboration with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), organised a School Safety Awareness Programme at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), Wessang. The programme was organised to promote awareness about school safety, disaster preparedness and appropriate responses during emergencies. It also aimed to encourage students and school staff to remain alert, informed and prepared to deal with unforeseen situations. The programme was conducted in the presence of the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy. SP), members of the SDRF team, officials from the Police and Fire Departments, the Principal of Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya (VKV), the Principal of KGBV Wessang and dedicated volunteers.   TIRAP, September 14:  It is a proud moment for Tirap district as two young mountaineers, Kampo Matey and Miatliam Wangsa, represented the district in the Mount Shinkun West Expedition, which reached an altitude of 6,127 metres in Himachal Pradesh. Kampo Matey, daughter of Shri Ranmey Matey and Smt. Nyarian Matey of Laptang village, has become a notable name in adventure sports in the district. She is the first NIMAS-certified mountaineer and adventurer from Tirap. Kampo has completed both the Advanced Mountaineering Course (AMC) and Basic Mountaineering Course (BMC), besides undergoing training in White Water Rafting.  Her participation in the Mount Shinkun West Expedition adds another major achievement to her mountaineering journey.   NAHARLAGUN, September 14:  Naharlagun Police have arrested two persons in connection with an alleged knife-point snatching incident reported in the Naharlagun Police Station area, recovering a knife, ₹4,500 in suspected proceeds and the scooter allegedly used in the crime. According to a press release issued by the Office of the Superintendent of Police, ICR Naharlagun, the incident occurred on September 12, 2026, when a 26-year-old man involved in supplying chocolates, food items and other eatables was returning towards Naharlagun after making deliveries. At around 12:04 pm, near the turn close to G-Sector Secondary School, two unidentified persons riding a red-coloured Aprilia scooter allegedly intercepted him by blocking his scooter.  PASIGHAT, September 14:  A school-based child-safety awareness programme by East Siang Police has helped a child seek timely assistance in a POCSO case, leading to the arrest of a 54-year-old man. According to a press release issued by East Siang District Police, the minor was allegedly lured by a neighbour on the pretext of offering sweets, after which the alleged sexual offence was committed. The victim’s cousin, who is also a school student, knew about Child Helpline 1098 after attending a Project Muskaan awareness session at his school. He used the helpline to report the incident and seek help for his sister. Following information received through the Child Helpline via the Women and Child Development Department, a team from the Women Police Station, led by L/Insp Anum Panyang, responded to the matter and apprehended the accused within an hour.   ITANAGAR, September 12:  Former Miss Arunachal Tengam Celine Koyu has expressed shock and outrage over the alleged sexual assault of a 70-year-old woman in Dambuk, Lower Dibang Valley district, calling the incident “shameful” and “disgusting.” In a social media post, Koyu said she woke up to reports of an elderly woman being assaulted after recently witnessing another case involving a minor. She described the latest victim as an “innocent grandmother” who was returning home after carrying wood. “I genuinely don’t know what is happening to our Arunachal anymore,” Koyu wrote, questioning how society can better protect vulnerable people and ensure that perpetrators face accountability.
