SSB Seizes 325.5 Kg Ganja in West Kameng, One Apprehended
BOMDILA, September 18:
In a major anti-narcotics operation, the 61st Battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Bhairabkhunda, in coordination with the Arunachal Pradesh Police, seized approximately 325.5 kg of suspected cannabis (ganja) in West Kameng district.
The operation was conducted on September 18, 2026, as part of intensified efforts by security agencies to check the movement of narcotics in the border areas of Arunachal Pradesh. One person was apprehended during the operation.
Following the seizure, the recovered contraband and the apprehended individual were handed over to Balemu Police for further investigation and legal action. The case is being dealt with under the applicable provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The seizure highlights the continuing importance of coordination between the SSB and state police in tackling narcotics trafficking in the region. The SSB said the operation reflects its continued vigilance and commitment to border security and inter-agency cooperation.
Arunachal Pradesh Home Minister Mama Natung praised the SSB personnel for what he described as their commendable work, appreciating the force's efforts in intercepting a substantial consignment of suspected narcotics.
His remarks come amid the state government's continuing focus on strengthening action against drug trafficking and illegal cultivation.
West Kameng has previously witnessed major narcotics-related enforcement actions. In June, authorities destroyed more than 2,900 kg of seized narcotic substances at Balemu following court orders, with Natung commending the police and other agencies involved in the operation.
The latest seizure adds to the growing series of coordinated operations aimed at disrupting the supply and movement of narcotics through Arunachal Pradesh.
