Pema Khandu Re-Elected APFA President

ITANAGAR, September 24:

Chief Minister Pema Khandu has been elected unopposed as the President of the Arunachal Pradesh Football Association (APFA) for the 2026–30 term.

Khandu was elected during the APFA’s 24th Annual General Body Meeting-cum-Election held at Jungle Resort, Sonajuli, in Papum Pare district on September 23. The meeting also saw the election of a new Executive Committee for the next four years.

Following the election, the newly elected Executive Committee took its oath and formally assumed responsibility for the administration and development of football in the state.

Kipa Ajay was elected as the Secretary of APFA, while other members were elected to the new Executive Committee. An observer present during the election proceedings congratulated the newly elected team and extended best wishes for its four-year term.

In a social media post after his election, Khandu thanked the members of the association for placing their trust in him and congratulated the newly elected Executive Committee members.

Khandu said the focus for the new term would be to build a stronger football ecosystem in Arunachal Pradesh and secure greater representation for the state in national football.

He also outlined the aim of creating more opportunities for talented footballers from Arunachal to progress to the national level and eventually represent India on the international stage.

The stated vision places particular emphasis on developing football from the grassroots and creating a clearer pathway for young players to move from state-level competitions to higher levels of the sport.

The new APFA leadership will therefore have to focus on strengthening grassroots programmes, identifying talent from across the state and providing players with regular competitive exposure.

The association will also be expected to build stronger links between local football development and national-level opportunities as it begins its 2026–30 term.

For Arunachal’s growing football community, the new term brings renewed attention to the development of young players and the state’s representation in national competitions.
