ANSU Calls Off 48-Hour Bandh After Talks With Govt

ITANAGAR, September 26:

The All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) has withdrawn its proposed 48-hour bandh across seven Nyishi-inhabited districts following a high-level meeting with Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Education Minister P.D. Sona on Saturday.

The decision came after detailed discussions between ANSU representatives, legislators from the Nyishi community and members of the Nyishi Elite Society (NES) over concerns related to government schools and other educational institutions.

The meeting focused on key issues raised by ANSU, particularly the condition of school infrastructure, institutional requirements and other education-related concerns identified at the grassroots level.

The participants also discussed the need for better coordination between the government and community stakeholders to address these issues and improve educational facilities across the state.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu appreciated ANSU for documenting education-related problems at the grassroots level and bringing them before the government.

He said the concerns raised by the students’ body would be addressed through greater coordination and a collaborative approach aimed at strengthening educational infrastructure and creating better learning opportunities for students.

Education Minister P.D. Sona also welcomed ANSU’s decision to withdraw the proposed bandh.

He said the issues raised by the students’ organisation could now be taken forward through constructive engagement, dialogue and continued coordination with the government.

The development comes two days after ANSU observed a 12-hour bandh on September 24 over its education-related demands.

Following the bandh, the students’ body had announced a proposed 48-hour shutdown across seven Nyishi-inhabited districts, intensifying pressure on the government to address the issues raised through its grassroots assessment of educational institutions.

With Saturday’s meeting resulting in an understanding between the stakeholders, ANSU has now called off the proposed 48-hour bandh.

The education-related demands will instead be pursued through continued discussions between ANSU and the government, with both sides agreeing on the need for coordinated efforts to improve school infrastructure and address institutional requirements.
