ZIRO, August 27:
The first-ever Ziro Mud Fest (ZMF) was inaugurated in Ziro on Thursday, marking the launch of a new adventure and youth-oriented festival aimed at promoting off-road sports, recreation, tourism and community participation in the region.
Ziro-Hapoli MLA Hage Appa attended the inaugural event as the Guest of Honour. He was joined by Namsai MLA and Adviser to the Minister for RWD, Sports and Youth Affairs, Chau Zingnu Namchoom, Deputy Commissioner of Lower Subansiri Oli Perme, ZPM Hibu Dumi and former minister Tage Taki, former minister Tab Tedir, among other dignitaries, participants and festival-goers.
MLA Hage Appa described Ziro Mud Fest as a new adventure-oriented festival bringing together mud-based recreational activities, sports, entertainment, music and community participation.
The MLA congratulated the organisers, led by Takhe Halley and his team, as well as the participants and other stakeholders involved in launching the festival.
The festival is being positioned as an addition to Ziro's growing tourism and festival calendar, with organisers seeking to combine off-road adventure with the valley's natural landscape and cultural experiences.
The event is scheduled from August 27 to 29 and includes competitive off-road activities alongside entertainment and other festival attractions.
The 2026 edition features the Z.O.A. Off-Road Challenge, with technical stages including mud runs, incline climbs, recovery drills, riverbed navigation, rock gardens, slush sections and hill climbs.
The event carries a combined prize pool of ₹10 lakh across various categories.
The festival is also expected to attract participants from outside Arunachal Pradesh. An off-road team from Meghalaya, for instance, has announced its participation in the event, underlining its emerging regional appeal.
Hage Appa expressed hope that Ziro Mud Fest will develop into a major annual attraction, further strengthening Ziro's profile as a destination for adventure, youth engagement, tourism and cultural experiences.
