ZGH Khonsa Performs First Caesarean Section, Marks Major Healthcare Milestone

KHONSA, August 24:

Zonal General Hospital (ZGH), Khonsa, Tirap district, achieved a major healthcare milestone on August 24 with the successful performance of its first Caesarean Section (CS), strengthening emergency obstetric and surgical care in the district.

The emergency Lower Segment Caesarean Section (LSCS) was performed on a first-time mother from Huakan village who was nine days beyond her Expected Date of Delivery (EDD).

She was admitted with severe oligohydramnios and suspected macrosomia, indicating a potentially large baby.

The procedure was successfully completed at around 1:00 PM, resulting in the safe delivery of a healthy female baby weighing 4.2 kg. Both the mother and newborn were reported to be stable following the surgery.

The procedure was carried out by a multidisciplinary team comprising Dr. Charang Agnes Wanglat from Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Dr. Chanwang Mongchan from ENT, Dr. Anita Tapir and Dr. Modhu Muri from Anaesthesia, and Surgeon Dr. T. Basar, along with the Operation Theatre team.

Medical Superintendent of ZGH Khonsa, Dr. Tumli Basar, described the achievement as an important step towards strengthening emergency obstetric and surgical services at the hospital.

He appreciated the dedication and coordinated efforts of the doctors, nursing staff, OT personnel and other supporting staff whose teamwork contributed to the successful procedure.

The milestone is expected to enhance ZGH Khonsa’s capacity to provide timely emergency maternal care and specialised surgical services, reducing the need for patients in Tirap district to travel elsewhere for critical obstetric interventions.
