STSAM Holds Protest Over Alleged PLA Incursion in Taksing
ITANAGAR, August 30:
The Save Taksing–Save Arunachal Movement Committee (STSAM) organised a peaceful protest at IG Park, Itanagar, on Sunday against the alleged Chinese PLA incursion in the Taksing area of Upper Subansiri district.
The protest, held under the motto “Our Land. Our Identity. Our Rights” and “Together for Arunachal, Together for Our Future,” was joined by various organisations and members of civil society.
The protesters expressed concern over the reported presence of Chinese PLA personnel in the Taksing region and called for stronger measures to safeguard Arunachal Pradesh’s territorial integrity and border areas.
STSAM placed a four-point charter of demands before the authorities. The first demand was the immediate withdrawal of Chinese PLA personnel from Indian soil under Taksing, Arunachal Pradesh.
The protesters also demanded a time-bound demarcation of the international boundary between India and China, along with the immediate construction of roads, telecommunications and air connectivity along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
Another key demand was the creation of an Arunachal Regiment in the Indian Army, which the organisers said would provide greater representation to the people of the state in the armed forces.
During the protest, demonstrators also burned effigies of Chinese President Xi Jinping and raised slogans including “Go Back Chinese” and “Go Back Chinese Army.”
The protesters questioned Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Home Minister Mama Natung over what they described as their silence on the alleged Chinese Army incursion in the Taksing region.
They demanded that the state government clarify its position on the issue and ensure that concerns regarding the security and territorial integrity of Arunachal Pradesh are addressed by the appropriate authorities.
