Sona Highlights Arunachal’s Tourism Potential at ‘Kiyak Laam Kraam’

ITANAGAR, August 29: 

Arunachal Pradesh Tourism Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona attended the valedictory ceremony of ‘Kiyak Laam Kraam – Our Journey’, a tourism and culture experience programme that brought together tour operators and homestay owners from all eight Northeastern states.

In a social media post, Sona said the initiative offered participants an opportunity to experience diverse destinations of Arunachal Pradesh while connecting with the state’s people, traditions, landscapes and ways of life.

‘Kiyak Laam Kraam’, meaning ‘Our Journey’ in the Meyor language, was described by the minister as reflecting a broader approach to tourism that goes beyond simply visiting destinations and focuses on meaningful cultural and community experiences.

The programme also provided a platform for tourism stakeholders from across the Northeast to exchange experiences, understand emerging tourism trends and explore opportunities for greater regional collaboration.

Sona said he delivered the valedictory address and witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Department of Industries, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, and the North East India Tourism Confederation (NEITC).

According to the minister, the agreement is expected to open avenues for further collaboration and synergised initiatives in the tourism sector, strengthening linkages among stakeholders across the Northeast.

The minister also expressed appreciation to the Department of Industries, Rajiv Gandhi University, CCRD, NEITC, participating delegates and others involved in organising the programme.

He said initiatives such as Kiyak Laam Kraam could help take the stories, cultures and experiences of Arunachal Pradesh to wider audiences while encouraging stronger cooperation among tourism stakeholders across the region.

Arunachal Pradesh Tourism officially promotes the state through a range of cultural, heritage, adventure and community-oriented tourism experiences, with multiple tourism circuits covering different parts of the state. 

Sona is currently serving as the Minister of Tourism, Education, RWD, Library and Parliamentary Affairs in the Arunachal Pradesh government.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
