SHG Market Inaugurated in Khonsa

KHONSA, August 28: 

A Self-Help Group (SHG) Market was inaugurated at the DUDA Vendor Market near the roadside of UD-IB on the approach road to Bank Colony in Khonsa on Friday. 

The initiative was organised by the Nocte Mothers Federation to provide SHG members with a dedicated space to sell their products and strengthen their livelihoods.

Deputy Commissioner, Tirap, Shri Badonlum Tawsik, attended the programme as the Chief Guest, while Assistant Commissioner-cum-Deputy Director (RD), Shri Longhi Naam, was the Guest of Honour. Retired Deputy Commissioner Shri Techu Aran and Executive Engineer, Urban Development Department, Er. Lienwang Hosai, attended as Special Invitees.

A total of 15 SHG vendors under the banner of the Nocte Mothers Federation participated in the inaugural programme. The market was formally opened with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting by the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour.

Following the inauguration, the dignitaries inspected the various products displayed by the participating SHG vendors. The products showcased the local skills and entrepreneurial efforts of the women involved in the SHGs.

Chairperson of the Nocte Mothers Federation, Smt. Nilom Wangsu, welcomed the dignitaries and SHG members during the programme. She expressed gratitude to Retired DC Shri Techu Aran and EE, UD Department, Er. Lienwang Hosai, for facilitating and allowing the SHG Market to operate at the DUDA Vendor Market.

Er. Lienwang Hosai assured the vendors of full cooperation from the Urban Development Department for the smooth functioning and sustainability of the market. 

He urged them to make the best use of the opportunity while maintaining cleanliness in and around the market and ensuring timely payment of the prescribed user fee.

Retired DC Shri Techu Aran advised the SHG vendors to keep their prices reasonable and uniform. He said fair pricing would help attract customers and contribute to the long-term sustainability of the market.

Guest of Honour Shri Longhi Naam encouraged the vendors to promote the concept of “Vocal for Local” by producing, promoting and marketing locally made products. He emphasised that greater support for local products could help increase household income and create sustainable livelihood opportunities.

Addressing the gathering, DC Tirap Shri Badonlum Tawsik stressed the importance of cleanliness and hygiene within the market premises. He urged vendors and visitors not to spit in the market and advised proper collection and disposal of garbage through the designated UD garbage collection vehicle.

The Deputy Commissioner also encouraged the SHG vendors to bring fresh and organic produce directly from their respective farms and make it available at the market on a daily basis. He said regular availability of locally produced agricultural and organic products could provide better livelihood opportunities and contribute to the economic well-being of the vendors and their families.

The inauguration marks an effort to give local SHG vendors a more organised platform to market their products in Khonsa. The initiative is also expected to encourage the promotion and consumption of locally produced goods while supporting women-led livelihood activities.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by President of the Nocte Mothers Federation, Smt. Chanon Mongwang. She expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, officials, SHG members and all participants for their presence and support in making the inaugural programme a success.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
