SAYO Demands Apology from Millo Ambo Over Remarks Against Dy CM

The Save Arunachal Youth Organization (SAYO) has issued a three-day ultimatum to Millo Ambo, General Secretary of the Arunachal ST Bachao Andolan, demanding an apology to Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein over allegations concerning his Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.

The development comes weeks after Ambo questioned the ST certificates of Chowna Mein, alleging discrepancies in the name of Mein’s father mentioned in certificates issued in 1999 and 2019.

According to Ambo and the Arunachal Bachao Andolan Committee, the alleged difference in the father’s name across the two official ST certificates raises questions about the authenticity and consistency of the records.

The allegations also came amid Ambo’s demand for Chowna Mein to resign from his current position as Deputy Chief Minister.

Reacting to the allegations, SAYO President Balang Sonam Effa said the claims against Mein were baseless and accused Ambo of making allegations against a leader who, according to the organisation, has made significant contributions to the development of Arunachal Pradesh.

Effa said Mein’s contribution to the state should be recognised and urged Ambo to apologise to both the Deputy Chief Minister and the Khamti community.

SAYO General Secretary Bikash Mrri Dodum said Chowna Mein and his forefathers have rendered significant service to Arunachal Pradesh since the NEFA era and have continued to contribute to the state’s development.

The organisation described Mein as a “fatherly political figure” who has served the people of Arunachal Pradesh for decades, and termed the demand for his resignation inappropriate.

SAYO has called on Millo Ambo to withdraw his allegations and tender an apology to Chowna Mein within three days.

The organisation warned that failure to comply with the ultimatum would lead to legal action, including filing FIRs against Ambo at police stations across Arunachal Pradesh.

The controversy comes against the backdrop of a wider debate over ST certificates and documentation, with the allegations and the organisation’s response likely to draw further attention to the issue.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. NNMR Seeks Action Against Yachuli MLA Over Podum Remarks

 ITANAGAR, September 15: The Nyishi Nyidung Mwngjwng Rallung (NNMR) has submitted a complaint to the Speaker of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly seeking action against Yachuli MLA Toko Tatung over remarks concerning the traditional Nyishi Podum/Byopia headgear. In its representation dated September 14, 2026, the organisation alleged that Tatung made a “misleading” statement about the origin and development of the traditional headgear during the Motion of Thanks to the Governor’s Address in the Assembly on March 11, 2025. According to the complaint, Tatung had questioned the originality of the traditional Podum and suggested that the modern artificial version was started by a Christian man.
