NSCN (R) Cadre Apprehended in Khonsa

KHONSA, August 25: 

A joint team of Tirap Police, 44th Assam Rifles and 36th Battalion CRPF conducted an operation in the 2 Mile area and adjoining parts of Khonsa Town on August 24, leading to the apprehension of a suspected NSCN (R) cadre.

The operation, conducted around 4 pm, was led by Inspector Kapseng Techi, Officer-in-Charge of Khonsa Police Station, based on reliable intelligence inputs.

The apprehended individual was identified as Tuwang Lowang alias Jeetu Siakia (34), who reportedly holds the self-styled rank of 2nd Lieutenant in NSCN (R).

Security forces recovered a 7.62 mm rifle, one magazine, 21 live rounds, SIM cards, cash and other incriminating materials from his possession.

According to police, the individual attempted to resist the apprehension, resulting in a brief physical confrontation before he was taken into custody.

A case has been registered at Khonsa Police Station vide Case No. 41/2026 under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Arms Act and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UA(P) Act).

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
