NSCN (IM) Cadre Apprehended in Ledo Operation
LEDO, August 28:
Security forces apprehended an active cadre of the NSCN (IM) during a special operation in Assam’s Ledo area on August 28, officials said.
The operation was launched by the 20 Assam Rifles following intelligence inputs about the presence of an NSCN (IM) cadre allegedly involved in weapon-related activities and extortion.
The apprehended individual was identified as SS Sergeant Major Yangsin Khocha, a resident of Phangsun village under Namtok Police Station in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district.
Security forces recovered a mobile phone and a carry bag from his possession during the operation.
During questioning, Khocha reportedly provided information about the alleged movement of cadres and weapons into the Changlang area.
According to officials, the cadres were allegedly planning attacks against security forces and collecting extortion money in the region.
Khocha also reportedly disclosed his alleged role in transferring extortion proceeds to senior cadres of the outfit, officials said.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts by security forces to track the movement of armed cadres and curb extortion and other unlawful activities in areas bordering Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
