Lower Siang Under Orange Alert for Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms
ITANAGAR, Aug 26:
Lower Siang has been placed under an orange-level alert by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) amid a forecast of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning in the district.
The warning was issued by the Meteorological Centre, Itanagar, at 1 pm on August 26 and is valid from August 26 to August 27, 2026. The department has forecast 6–11 cm of rainfall in 24 hours at isolated places in Lower Siang.
The IMD has specifically warned of thunderstorms with lightning accompanied by heavy rainfall, indicating the possibility of intense weather conditions in parts of the district.
In its district-wise warning map, Lower Siang has been marked orange under the “Alert – Be Prepared” category.
The neighbouring Leparada and several other districts like Kamle, Lower Subansiri, Papum Pare, West Kameng, Kra Daadi, Namsai, Lohit, Tirap, Longding etc. have been kept under the yellow “Watch, Be Updated” category.
The forecast comes as parts of Arunachal Pradesh continue to experience active monsoon conditions.
Heavy rain combined with thunderstorms could affect local travel and increase the risk of waterlogging, landslides and sudden rises in streams in vulnerable areas.
Residents of Lower Siang are advised to remain alert and closely follow weather updates and advisories issued by the IMD and local authorities. People in vulnerable locations are urged to exercise extra caution during periods of intense rainfall and thunderstorms.
