Disaster Preparedness Drill Held at Hapoli School

An Awareness Programme-cum-Emergency Safety Drill on Disaster Preparedness was conducted at LBS Govt. Upper Primary School, Hapoli, to sensitise students and staff about disaster risks and appropriate emergency response measures.

The programme was organised by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) and RRC, Lower Subansiri District, Ziro, with a focus on strengthening preparedness and promoting safety awareness among schoolchildren.

The session covered important aspects of disaster preparedness, including identifying risks, responding to emergencies, safe evacuation and following coordinated safety procedures during disasters.

Students and staff were also given practical exposure through an emergency safety drill. The exercise demonstrated how an injured person can be safely moved using an improvised stretcher while maintaining coordination among those involved.

The drill included demonstrations of basic emergency-response practices, with safety equipment such as helmets, fire extinguishers, safety cones and caution tape used during the exercise.

Students actively participated in the practical demonstrations under the guidance of the programme personnel. The hands-on exercise was intended to help them understand the importance of remaining calm, following instructions and assisting others safely during an emergency.

The programme also highlighted the importance of conducting regular disaster preparedness activities in educational institutions. 

Such drills can help students and school staff become more familiar with evacuation procedures and coordinated responses before an actual emergency occurs.

The initiative is part of efforts to strengthen disaster preparedness at the community level in Lower Subansiri district, with schools serving as an important platform for spreading awareness about emergency safety and disaster risk reduction.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
