Chowna Mein Reviews Buddha Relics Exhibition Preparations

NAMSAI, August 22: 

Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Saturday held a coordination meeting in Namsai to review preparations for the receiving, welcoming and exhibition of the Sacred Relics of Buddha Shakyamuni.

The sacred relics will be brought to Arunachal Pradesh as part of the Sacred Exposition of the Holy Relics, scheduled from November 1 to 15, 2026, commemorating the 2569th Vesak Buddha Purnima.

During the meeting, officials and stakeholders discussed arrangements to ensure smooth coordination and adequate facilities for devotees and visitors during the exposition.

The Sacred Relics will be exhibited at Tawang, Bomdila and Namsai, with the final leg of the exposition scheduled at Namsai’s Golden Pagoda from November 11 to 15.

The exhibition is expected to provide devotees an opportunity to receive darshan of the sacred relics and seek blessings, while also highlighting Arunachal Pradesh’s rich Buddhist heritage.

Mein said the exposition would be a significant spiritual occasion for the people of the state and would promote the shared values of peace, compassion, harmony and unity.

He appreciated the participation and support of Buddhist spiritual leaders, elected representatives, district administrations, community organisations and other stakeholders working together to make the occasion dignified and memorable.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
