Capital Police Files Case Over Alleged Encroachment of Police Land

ITANAGAR, August 29: 

Capital Police Itanagar has registered a criminal case over the alleged trespassing and encroachment of police land at the SP Capital Itanagar office premises.

According to a press release issued by the Office of the Superintendent of Police, Capital Itanagar, the police department has taken action after a person allegedly trespassed on approximately six acres of police land and removed or damaged a property signboard.

The written complaint was lodged by Chamrak Arun, APPS, DySP (HQ), Capital Itanagar, on behalf of the Estate Officer, SP Capital Itanagar.

The police said the department is in possession of around six acres of land at the location, where signboards had been installed to demarcate the area and protect government possession.

As per the complaint, the accused allegedly entered the police property without authorisation and removed or destroyed a signboard, causing damage to government property.

Itanagar Police Station Case No. 256/2026 has been registered under Sections 329(3), 324(3) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), read with Section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984.

The police said the case marks the first such criminal case in the Capital concerning alleged trespass and damage involving police land.

The SP Capital Itanagar and DySP (HQ) have issued a strict warning that unauthorised occupation, encroachment or construction on police land will not be tolerated.

Police said anyone found trespassing, damaging property, encroaching on police land or attempting to occupy it unlawfully will face action in accordance with law.

Members of the public have also been advised not to occupy, encroach upon or undertake any construction on police land without lawful authorisation.

Capital Police Itanagar said it will continue to protect police and government land and take necessary legal action against illegal encroachment, trespass and damage to government property.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. NNMR Seeks Action Against Yachuli MLA Over Podum Remarks

 ITANAGAR, September 15: The Nyishi Nyidung Mwngjwng Rallung (NNMR) has submitted a complaint to the Speaker of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly seeking action against Yachuli MLA Toko Tatung over remarks concerning the traditional Nyishi Podum/Byopia headgear. In its representation dated September 14, 2026, the organisation alleged that Tatung made a “misleading” statement about the origin and development of the traditional headgear during the Motion of Thanks to the Governor’s Address in the Assembly on March 11, 2025. According to the complaint, Tatung had questioned the originality of the traditional Podum and suggested that the modern artificial version was started by a Christian man.
