Beti Janmotsava Held in Yupia to Empower Girls

YUPIA, August 21: 

HThe District Administration, Papum Pare, and District ICDS Cell, Yupia, in collaboration with various line departments, observed Beti Janmotsava under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme at the SDO’s Conference Hall, Yupia, on Friday.

More than 70 participants, including lactating mothers benefiting under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) and adolescent girls, attended the programme.

Chief Guest Shri Nyelam Tan, SDO, Doimukh, appreciated the Women and Child Development Department for regularly organising awareness programmes for the welfare and empowerment of women and children.

He said Beti Janmotsava is not just a celebration but an important social message to value, protect, educate and empower every girl child.

Tan also encouraged parents to make use of the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) through post offices to help secure the financial future of their daughters.

In her welcome address, Smti. Jaya Taba, Deputy Director, District ICDS Cell, Yupia, highlighted various welfare schemes and initiatives being implemented by the Women and Child Development Department.


She also explained the objectives of BBBP and stressed the importance of ensuring the safety, education, dignity, health and empowerment of girls.

As part of the programme, gift hampers were distributed to mothers with infants, while sanitary napkins were provided to adolescent girls to promote menstrual hygiene.

Dr. Tilling Pamung, Medical Officer, conducted an awareness session on menstrual hygiene and sensitised adolescent girls on the importance of maintaining proper menstrual health practices.

Smti. Likha Asha, Advocate, conducted another awareness session on the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, explaining the legal safeguards and remedies available to women facing domestic violence.

The programme concluded with a renewed call for families, communities and government departments to work together to create a safe and supportive environment for girls.

The event highlighted the need to ensure that every girl is valued, protected and given equal opportunities to learn, grow and realise her potential.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
