ANSU Seeks Early Reopening of Itanagar–Jullang Road
ITANAGAR, August 24:
The All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) has urged the Arunachal Pradesh government to immediately restore and reopen the Itanagar (Ganga)–Jullang Road, which has remained closed for nearly two years.
In a representation submitted to the Chief Minister, ANSU highlighted the difficulties faced by residents and daily commuters due to the prolonged closure of the important road.
The road serves as an alternative bypass route for people travelling between Itanagar, Ganga and Jullang. Its closure has forced residents, students, government employees and other commuters to depend on longer alternative routes.
ANSU said the continued closure has caused considerable inconvenience to the public, particularly during the monsoon when several roads in the Capital Region remain vulnerable to damage and disruption.
The Union has called for comprehensive restoration work instead of temporary repairs. It has specifically sought proper drainage systems, protection of culverts and the construction or strengthening of retaining structures along vulnerable stretches.
According to ANSU, these measures are necessary to prevent recurring damage and ensure that the road remains functional during the monsoon season.
The Union has appealed to the concerned authorities to initiate the restoration work at the earliest and reopen the road in the larger public interest.
ANSU has also stated that if no tangible action is initiated within one week, it may be compelled to take necessary democratic and constitutional measures to safeguard public interest.
