08 Children Rescued from Child Labour in Seppa
Seppa, East Kameng, August 31:
A joint inspection was conducted at various locations across Seppa Township to identify children engaged in child labour and ensure their safety, protection and rehabilitation.
The inspection team included representatives from the civil administration, police, Labour Department, District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) and Child Welfare Committee (CWC).
The team comprised Shri Sangkar Bagang, CO, Seppa; Shri Sheychin Chena, OC, Seppa; Shri Ashok Sonam, Labour Officer; Shri Katung Gyadi, Child Protection Officer, DCPU; and Shri Chacho D. Bagang, Chairperson, CWC, Seppa.
During the inspection, eight children were identified in situations involving child labour and were rescued from such circumstances for their immediate safety and protection.
Following the rescue, all eight children were safely produced/admitted at Kampu Hollen Child Care Institute, Seppa, for necessary care, protection and rehabilitation.
The competent authorities and the Child Welfare Committee will undertake the required statutory procedures under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, and other applicable child protection and labour laws.
The rescued children will receive appropriate counselling, medical examination, educational support and rehabilitation services, based on their individual circumstances and care and protection needs.
The joint inspection reflects the coordinated efforts of government departments and child protection agencies to prevent child labour and protect children from exploitation.
The authorities also appreciated the cooperation of all concerned departments, officials, institutions and stakeholders in ensuring the rescue, safety and rehabilitation of the children.
