Volunteers Remove 3,000 Kg Waste from Yamaso River

ITANAGAR, July 28: 

In a significant step towards environmental conservation, the Youth Mission for Clean River and the Abralow Memorial Multipurpose Society, with support from the Itanagar Smart City Development Corporation Ltd. (ISCDCL), organised a river clean-up drive at the Yamaso River in C-II Colony (Ward No. 10), Itanagar, on World Nature Conservation Day.

The Yamaso River, one of the sister rivers of the Yagamso River, merges with it near the end of IG Park. 

The clean-up campaign aimed to promote river conservation while encouraging community participation in protecting the environment.

The drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from volunteers who worked together to clear waste from the river. 

By the end of the campaign, nearly 3,000 kilograms of garbage had been removed, making it one of the largest community-led clean-up efforts in the area.

The morning's cool breeze, overcast skies and the gentle flow of the river provided ideal conditions for the volunteers, adding to the spirit of the occasion.

Organisers said the campaign was more than just a clean-up exercise. Every bag of waste collected represented a commitment to restoring the river's health and preserving it for future generations.

They also appealed to the public to avoid dumping waste into rivers and to actively support initiatives that protect the region's natural environment.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
