Tagin Community Mourns Demise of Gogyam Gumja Tamin

DAPORIJO, July 30: 

The Tagin community and followers of the indigenous Si-Donyi faith are mourning the demise of renowned traditional priest and scholar of Tagin customary law, Late Gogyam Gumja Tamin, who passed away on Thursday morning at the TRIHMS. He was 70.

Born to Late Pugo Gumja and Late Jamnu Gumja of Dignium village under Giba Circle, he later settled at Lejirijo village under Sigin-I in Daporijo. 

Throughout his life, he dedicated himself to preserving and promoting the indigenous spiritual traditions, customary laws, and cultural heritage of the Tagin community.

Having embraced shamanism at a young age, Gogyam Gumja Tamin went on to become one of the most respected traditional priests of his generation. 

His extensive knowledge of Tagin customs and rituals earned him widespread recognition and respect across Arunachal Pradesh.

His lifelong service to the Si-Donyi faith was marked by the rare honour of serving as the Head Priest of the Si-Donyi Hilo on nine occasions. 

His first appointment was during the Naharlagun Si-Donyi celebration in 1989, while his final service came at the Naharlagun Si-Donyi Jaaring in 2022.

Known for his wisdom, humility and unwavering commitment to preserving indigenous traditions, he played a significant role in strengthening the cultural and spiritual identity of the Tagin people. 

Community members remember him as a compassionate elder whose guidance inspired generations.

He is survived by his two wives, five sons, three daughters, and several grandchildren, including his son Gyamde Gumja Tamin, Assistant General Secretary of IFCSAP.

Condolences have poured in from various quarters, with people remembering his immense contribution to the preservation of Tagin customary practices and the Si-Donyi faith. 

Prayers have been offered for eternal peace to the departed soul and for strength and solace to his bereaved family during this difficult time.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
