IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert for Arunachal

ITANAGAR, July 29: 

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Meteorological Centre Itanagar, has issued an impact-based weather forecast warning for thunderstorms with lightning and heavy to very heavy rainfall across several districts of Arunachal Pradesh from July 30 to August 1.

According to the forecast, East Siang, Lohit, Namsai and Longding are likely to receive heavy rainfall (6–11 cm in 24 hours) between July 30 and 31. 

During the same period, Papum Pare is expected to witness very heavy rainfall (12–20 cm in 24 hours) at isolated places.

For July 31 to August 1, heavy rainfall has been forecast for Lower Subansiri, Lower Dibang Valley and Lohit, while Papum Pare is again likely to experience very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

The IMD has advised residents to remain alert as the weather may trigger flash floods, landslides, waterlogging and disruption of road connectivity, particularly in vulnerable and hilly areas. 

People have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall and to follow advisories issued by local authorities.

Authorities are expected to closely monitor the situation as the state continues to experience active monsoon conditions.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
