Gangphung Gangsa Clinches Gold at All India Police Games

ITANAGAR, July 25: 

Gangphung Gangsa, a talented martial artist from Votnu village in Longding district, has brought laurels to Arunachal Pradesh by winning the gold medal at the 11th All India Police Games 2026–27 held in Hyderabad.

Gangphung is currently serving as a Sub-Inspector in the Special Task Force (STF). 

His latest achievement has brought pride to the people of Longding and the entire state while inspiring young athletes to pursue excellence in sports.

Congratulating Gangphung on his remarkable success, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein described the victory as a proud moment for Arunachal Pradesh. 

He said the achievement is a testament to Gangphung's dedication, discipline and perseverance, adding that his success reflects the spirit of determination and excellence.

The Deputy Chief Minister also wished Gangphung continued success in his sporting career and expressed confidence that he would bring many more laurels to Arunachal Pradesh in the years to come.

This is not Gangphung's first major achievement at the national level. 

In 2025, he won one gold and one bronze medal at the 10th All India Police Judo Cluster (Taekwondo) 2025, held in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, from October 8 to 16.

With another national gold medal to his name, Gangphung Gangsa continues to strengthen Arunachal Pradesh's presence in Indian martial arts and remains an inspiration for aspiring sportspersons across the state.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
