Arunachal's Yomter Taso Wins South Asian Karate Gold

DHAKA/ITANAGAR, July 19:

Yomter Taso of Lower Siang district, Arunachal Pradesh, has brought glory to the state and the nation by winning the gold medal in the Junior Female Individual Kumite (-42 kg) category at the 10th South Asian Karate Championship held in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Representing India, Yomter delivered a commanding performance to secure the top podium finish at one of South Asia's most prestigious karate events, which featured top athletes from across the region. 

The championship included competitions in the Cadet, Junior, Under-21 and Senior divisions and was held alongside the 2nd Under-14 South Asia Karate Cup and the AKF Referee and Coaches Course & Examination.

Her remarkable achievement has been widely appreciated, with 36 Nari-Koyu MLA Tojir Kadu extending his heartfelt congratulations to the young karateka.

Describing the victory as a proud moment for Lower Siang district and Arunachal Pradesh, Kadu said Yomter's dedication, discipline and fighting spirit have earned her a well-deserved international success. 

He added that her achievement would inspire aspiring sportspersons across the state to pursue excellence through hard work and perseverance.

The MLA further expressed confidence that Yomter's gold medal marks the beginning of many more accomplishments at national and international competitions. 

He wished her continued success in her sporting career and hoped she would continue to bring laurels to Arunachal Pradesh and the country.

Yomter's triumph adds another milestone to Arunachal Pradesh's growing success in martial arts and highlights the state's emergence as a nurturing ground for talented athletes capable of excelling on the international stage.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
