TRIHMS Sanitary Supervisor Arrested in Alleged Washroom Voyeurism Case

NAHARLAGUN, June 26: Naharlagun Police have arrested a sanitary supervisor working at the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) in connection with an alleged voyeurism case after a woman accused him of secretly recording her while she was inside a hospital washroom.

The case has been registered as Naharlagun Police Station Case No. 74/2026 under Sections 74, 77, 78(1), and 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) following a written complaint lodged by the victim. Police have launched a detailed investigation into the incident, which has raised serious concerns over the privacy and safety of women within public institutions.

According to the complaint, the incident occurred at around 7:30 AM on June 25 inside the general washroom located near the ICCU Block of TRIHMS. While using the washroom, the woman allegedly noticed a mobile phone being held through the ventilation gap, apparently recording her without her knowledge or consent.

Realising what had happened, she immediately raised an alarm and informed her family members. During the ensuing commotion, the suspect allegedly attempted to flee from the spot and tried to delete the recorded material from his mobile phone. However, he was intercepted and detained by the Officer-in-Charge of Naharlagun Police Station before being formally arrested.

The accused has been identified as Tamchi Nido (29), a native of Sangram in Kurung Kumey district, who is currently residing at Last Damsite, Naharlagun. Police said he joined TRIHMS as a Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) in 2021 and was promoted to the post of Sanitary Supervisor in May 2025.

During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to secretly recording women inside washrooms over the past three to four months, police said. Acting on the information, investigators carried out a forensic examination of his light blue Redmi Note 11T 5G mobile phone, which reportedly led to the recovery of several suspected voyeuristic videos.

Police have seized the mobile handset as crucial evidence and stated that the digital evidence will undergo detailed forensic analysis to establish the extent of the alleged offence and determine whether there may be additional victims. The investigation is also focused on identifying if any recovered material had been shared or stored elsewhere.

The accused has been formally arrested and will be produced before the competent court for further legal proceedings in accordance with law.

The investigation is being supervised by ASP Rishi Longdo, APPS, SDPO Naharlagun. SP ICR Naharlagun Dr. Nyelam Nega, APPS, said the police are committed to conducting a thorough, impartial and professional investigation to ensure justice for the victim and to take appropriate legal action based on the evidence collected.

The incident has once again highlighted the importance of safeguarding privacy in public institutions, particularly in sensitive areas such as hospital washrooms. Police have urged members of the public to immediately report any similar incidents so that prompt legal action can be taken.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S.
