Seven Women Rescued as Lower Siang Police Bust Alleged Prostitution Racket

LIKABALI, June 25:

In a major crackdown on alleged immoral trafficking, the Lower Siang District Police, in coordination with the Executive Magistrate, conducted a surprise raid at Bokchum Resort in Likabali on Wednesday, following credible intelligence inputs regarding suspected pimping and prostitution activities at the establishment.

The operation was launched after police received information from multiple reliable sources, including the Arunachal Pradesh Women Welfare Society (APWWS), Lower Siang District Unit. Acting swiftly, a joint team comprising police personnel, including lady police officers, and the Executive Magistrate carried out the raid at the resort.

During the operation, seven women, reportedly from Nagaland and Assam, were rescued from the premises. Police stated that all rescue procedures were carried out with due regard to the dignity and privacy of the women. 

Following medical examinations, the rescued women were placed under the care and custody of the One Stop Centre for further legal assistance, counselling, and rehabilitation in accordance with established procedures.

The resort owner, manager, and several customers found at the premises were detained for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.

Based on the findings of the raid, Likabali Police registered a case vide FIR No. 25/2026 under Sections 3(1)(2) and 4(1)(2)(c) of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956.

Police said the investigation is continuing to determine the full extent of the alleged prostitution racket, identify all individuals involved, and ascertain whether the operation has links to a wider trafficking network. Authorities have assured that all those found responsible will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area.
