KEYI PANYOR, June 30:

Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, along with Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, State Agriculture Minister Kento Jini, and senior government officials on Tuesday visited the flood-affected stretch of National Highway-13 between Hoj and Potin in Keyi Panyor district to assess the extensive damage caused by recent floods and landslides.

The high-level delegation inspected the affected areas, reviewed the ongoing restoration work, and interacted with families impacted by the disaster. National Highway-13, the state's principal arterial road connecting several districts of Arunachal Pradesh, has suffered severe damage following continuous heavy rainfall, flash floods, and landslides, significantly disrupting transportation, supply of essential goods, and the daily lives of thousands of residents.

Speaking after the visit, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said the delegation interacted with affected families and closely reviewed the restoration efforts on the ground. He emphasized that the Central Government, in close coordination with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, stands firmly with the people during this difficult time and is committed to ensuring the speedy restoration of connectivity, comprehensive relief measures, rehabilitation of affected families, and every possible assistance required for recovery.

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who is on a two-day visit to Arunachal Pradesh and Assam with Kiren Rijiju, said the visit was undertaken following the directions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He stated that the team would review the flood situation in both states and assured that the Central Government remains fully committed to supporting the people and the respective state governments in overcoming the crisis.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu reiterated that the state's immediate priority is to provide swift relief to every affected family, restore essential public services, and accelerate rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts in all flood-affected areas. He said the ground visit with the Union Ministers was aimed at assessing the situation firsthand, reviewing the progress of ongoing response measures, and identifying the immediate requirements of the affected communities to ensure timely intervention.

The visit comes as restoration work continues across several flood-hit locations in Keyi Panyor district, where government agencies are working to clear landslide debris, restore road connectivity, and provide relief to affected residents. The joint visit by the Centre and the State Government underscores a coordinated response to expedite recovery efforts and minimize further hardship for the people affected by the disaster.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
