NSCN (K-Angmai) SS 2nd Lieutenant Arrested in Longding

 


LONGDING, June 24:

In a major breakthrough against insurgent activities, Security Forces and the Longding District Police jointly apprehended an active cadre of the NSCN (K-Angmai) faction during a coordinated operation in the Pangchau area of Longding district on the evening of June 24, 2026.

The arrested insurgent has been identified as Wanglai Wangsa alias Laipa Wangsa, who held the rank of SS 2nd Lieutenant in the NSCN (K-Angmai) faction. According to police, he had been associated with the outfit since 2012 and had been actively involved in its operations over the years.

During the operation, security personnel recovered one semi-automatic pistol, one magazine, and five rounds of live 7.65 mm ammunition from his possession. Police described the seizure as a significant success in the ongoing efforts to curb insurgent activities and disrupt the operational capabilities of militant groups in the region.

Following the arrest, Pangchau Police Station Case No. 04/2026 was registered under Sections 25(1A) and 27 of the Arms Act, read with Sections 10 and 13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (UAPA). Investigators are examining the accused's activities, network, and possible involvement in other unlawful operations.

Police further revealed that Wanglai Wangsa is also a wanted accused in Longding Police Station Case No. 43/2022, registered under Sections 302/34 of the Indian Penal Code, Sections 25(1A) and 27 of the Arms Act, and Sections 10 and 13 of the UAPA, in connection with the murder of Lt. Attar Sharma. His arrest is expected to assist investigators in the ongoing probe into the case and other insurgency-related activities.

Officials described the arrest as a significant achievement in the sustained campaign against insurgency in Longding district. They said the successful operation reflects the close coordination, professionalism, and operational effectiveness of the Security Forces and Longding District Police in maintaining peace, enhancing public safety, and upholding the rule of law.

The authorities also commended the personnel involved in the operation for their vigilance, dedication, and commitment, reaffirming that coordinated operations against insurgent groups will continue to ensure the safety and security of the people of the district.
