Nirjuli Police Arrest Two, Seize Suspected Heroin in Lekhi Operation

Nirjuli, June 22: 

In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Nirjuli Police arrested two individuals and seized suspected heroin during a targeted operation near Lekhi Village in the Capital Region.

The operation was launched after police received credible information on June 22 at around 2:45 PM regarding the transportation of heroin from Banderdewa towards the Capital Region. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, a police team conducted an operation under the supervision of SDPO Naharlagun Shri Rishi Longdo and led by Inspector T. Hassang, Officer-in-Charge of Nirjuli Police Station.

During the operation, police intercepted a scooter bearing registration number AS-07X-0255 near the Truck Terminal at Lekhi Village after a brief chase. The two occupants were identified as Munmun Morang (32) of Lakhimpur district, Assam, and Bikram Doley (30) of Majuli district, Assam.

A search was carried out in the presence of Executive Magistrate Khoda Bath, during which police recovered 17 plastic vials containing an orange-coloured powder suspected to be heroin from the possession of Munmun Morang. The total weight of the seized contraband, including the plastic vials, was found to be 22.6 grams.

Following the seizure, Nirjuli Police registered a case under Section 21(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act vide NRJ/PS/C.No. 41/2026. Both accused have been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the contraband, its intended destination, and any larger network involved in the trafficking operation.

Superintendent of Police, ICR Naharlagun, Dr. Nyelam Nega, reaffirmed the Arunachal Pradesh Police's commitment to combating drug abuse and trafficking. He urged citizens to support law enforcement agencies by sharing credible information related to illegal drug activities, emphasizing that community cooperation remains crucial in building a drug-free society.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area.
