Naharlagun Police Arrest Drug Peddler, Seize Suspected Heroin

 


Naharlagun, June 24:

In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Naharlagun Police arrested a suspected drug peddler identified as Sonny Taba (21), a resident of D-Sector, Naharlagun, and seized a substantial quantity of suspected heroin along with cash believed to be proceeds from illegal drug trade.

Acting on specific intelligence, a police team conducted an operation and apprehended the accused. During a search carried out in the presence of witnesses and following legal procedures, police recovered 19 vials containing suspected heroin from his possession. The seized contraband weighed approximately 20.08 grams.

Following the arrest, police also conducted a search of the accused's residence at D-Sector, Naharlagun. During the house search, another seven vials containing suspected heroin were recovered. The additional contraband weighed 8.41 grams, taking the total seizure to 26 vials with a combined weight of 28.49 grams.

Apart from the narcotics, police recovered ₹12,900 in cash, which is suspected to be proceeds from drug peddling activities. All seized items were documented and taken into custody as evidence. The accused has been arrested and remanded for further investigation.

A case has been registered at Naharlagun Police Station vide Case No. 70/2026 under Sections 21(b), 27 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Superintendent of Police (ICR), Dr. Nyelam Nega, stated that strict action against drug traffickers and peddlers will continue as part of the police's ongoing efforts to curb the drug menace in the capital region.
