MLA Toko Tatung Leads Frontline Relief Operations

KEYI PANYOR, June 27: 

In a remarkable display of leadership and solidarity, 16th Yachuli MLA Toko Tatung has been at the forefront of relief operations following the devastating flash flood triggered by a cloudburst in the Posa area of Keyi Panyor district.

Beyond overseeing rescue and rehabilitation efforts, the MLA has personally joined volunteers in clearing debris, helping reconstruct damaged infrastructure, searching for missing persons, and even preparing meals for families displaced by the disaster. 

On Friday evening, Tatung was seen cooking dinner alongside local representatives, party workers, youth volunteers, and well-wishers for the affected families, earning widespread appreciation for leading from the front during one of the district's worst natural calamities in recent years.

Sharing the update, Toko Tatung said, "Today, alongside our ZPC, ZPMs, dedicated party workers, youths, and well-wishers, we prepared and served dinner for the families affected by the devastating Keyi Panyor cloudburst. Sincere appreciation to Shri Munin Choudhury Ji (HOP, NEEPCO) for his proactive leadership in arranging shelters and essential relief beforehand. To our affected families: You are not alone. Together, with the unwavering support of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, we will recover and rebuild."

The flash flood caused widespread destruction across the Posa area, damaging more than 20 houses and washing away several stretches of the Hoj–Posa road, cutting off connectivity at multiple locations. One woman lost her life in the tragedy, and her body was recovered on June 24. However, four persons remain missing, and search operations by the district administration, police, SDRF, and other rescue agencies are continuing.

Meanwhile, Arunachal News Service Union (ANSU) President Ashok, while interacting with the media, said that according to the organisation's field survey, there are road blockades at more than 30 locations, with the highway suffering extensive damage in several stretches. He stated that restoring connectivity is expected to take several days due to the scale of destruction.

Deputy Commissioner of Keyi Panyor, Shweta Nagarkoti, informed that the district administration's preliminary assessment indicates that it will take at least 15 days before the damaged highways can be made motorable again.

Relief operations are continuing across the affected areas, with the district administration, elected representatives, volunteers, and various organisations working together to provide shelter, food, and essential assistance while restoration work and search operations remain underway.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
