IMD Issues Red Warning for West Kameng and Papum Pare

ITANAGAR, June 27: 

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Meteorological Centre Itanagar, has issued an Impact-Based Weather Forecast warning for Arunachal Pradesh, placing West Kameng and Papum Pare districts under Red Warning (Take Action) for June 28 (Day-2). The department has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and heavy rainfall over the warned districts as active monsoon conditions continue to influence the state.

According to the district-wise warning map released by the IMD, East Kameng, Pakke Kessang, Lower Subansiri and East Siang have been placed under the Orange Warning (Be Prepared) category. The weather office has indicated that these districts are likely to experience thunderstorms with lightning and heavy rainfall of 6–11 cm within 24 hours at isolated places during the forecast period from June 28 to June 29.

The warning forms part of the IMD's three-day outlook for Arunachal Pradesh, with weather activity expected to persist in several parts of the state. While the Red Warning has been issued specifically for West Kameng and Papum Pare on June 28, the Orange Warning covers East Kameng, Pakke Kessang, Lower Subansiri and East Siang, indicating a higher likelihood of significant weather conditions requiring increased preparedness. Other districts remain under Yellow or Green categories depending on the expected intensity of rainfall and thunderstorms.

The IMD has categorised the warnings using its standard colour-coded system, where Red signifies "Take Action", Orange means "Be Prepared", Yellow indicates "Be Aware", and Green denotes no significant weather warning. These warnings are issued to help government agencies, local authorities and the public prepare for anticipated weather conditions.

Residents of the affected districts are advised to keep track of official weather updates issued by the IMD and the district administration, avoid outdoor activities during thunderstorms whenever possible, take necessary precautions against lightning, and exercise caution while travelling during periods of heavy rain. Motorists are advised to drive carefully, maintain visibility and follow instructions issued by local authorities if weather conditions deteriorate.

The IMD has urged the public not to rely on rumours or unverified weather information and to follow only official advisories issued by the Meteorological Centre Itanagar and the concerned district administrations for timely updates.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
