Chimpu Drug Bust: 38.8g Suspected Heroin Seized, One Arrested

ITANAGAR, June 30:

Capital Police Itanagar intensified its ongoing campaign against drug trafficking with the arrest of an alleged drug peddler and the seizure of 38.8 grams of suspected heroin during a well-coordinated anti-narcotics operation at BN Colony, Chimpu, on June 29.

The accused has been identified as Bicky Nidak Tamin alias Biki Tamin (22), son of Tapor Nidak and a resident of BN Colony, Chimpu.

The operation was carried out by the Special Action Team (SAT) of Capital Police Itanagar under the supervision of DySP (HQ) Chamrak Arun, APPS. The team was led by SI Padam Padi and included HC Jerry Romin, Ct. Rinchin Tsering, Ct. Passang Norbu, and Ct. Tasso Tasser. The operation also witnessed the active participation of SDPO Itanagar Chera Saban and Officer-in-Charge of Chimpu Police Station, Niraj Nishant.

According to police, the accused was intercepted while travelling on a Yamaha Ray ZR scooter at BN Colony. To ensure full compliance with the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Tamo Dada was called to witness the search proceedings.

In the presence of the Executive Magistrate, police conducted a personal search of the accused and recovered three plastic vials containing suspected heroin, commonly known as brown sugar, from his pocket.

During sustained interrogation, the accused allegedly disclosed that additional narcotic substances had been concealed at his residence. Acting on the information, the police team conducted a house search at his residence in the presence of the Executive Magistrate and independent witnesses.

The search resulted in the recovery of five more plastic containers containing suspected heroin from the house and the adjoining garden area. Altogether, police seized 38.8 grams of suspected heroin from the accused.

Apart from the narcotics, police also seized ₹22,600 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from drug trafficking, an Apple iPhone 13, and the Yamaha Ray ZR scooter (Registration No. AR-01T-8237) allegedly used in the commission of the offence.

During preliminary questioning, the accused reportedly revealed that the narcotics had been procured through a supplier and that payment was allegedly made via an online transaction. Police said the financial transaction is being verified, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other individuals linked to the supply chain.

A case has been registered at Chimpu Police Station under Case No. 57/2026 under Sections 21(b), 27A, and 29 of the NDPS Act, 1985. Investigation is continuing to trace the entire drug network and uncover the financial trail associated with the racket.

The operation was closely supervised by SP Capital Itanagar Jummar Basar, who reaffirmed the Capital Police's commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks, bringing those involved to justice, and safeguarding the youth from the menace of narcotic drugs.

Capital Police stated that it will continue to take stringent action against drug traffickers as part of its sustained efforts to make the Capital Region drug-free and ensure the safety of its citizens.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student.
