Capital Police Bust Heroin Network, Arrest Two Drug Peddlers in Itanagar

ITANAGAR, June 26:

In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Capital Police Itanagar arrested two alleged drug peddlers and dismantled a heroin distribution network operating from Senki Park during a coordinated anti-narcotics operation conducted on June 25.

The operation was jointly carried out by the Niti Vihar Police Station and the Special Action Team (SAT) of Capital Police Itanagar following specific and credible intelligence inputs regarding heroin trafficking in the area.

The operation was led by DySP (HQ), ICR, Shri Chamrak Arun, APPS, who heads the Special Action Team (SAT). The SAT team comprised SI Padam Padi, Ct. Rinchin Tsering, Ct. Tasso Tasser, Ct. Passang Norbu and L/Ct. Jananko Mirip Singpho. They worked in close coordination with the Niti Vihar Police Station team led by SI Tejab Tadar, who served as the Seizing Officer.

Acting on the intelligence, police conducted a legally authorised search operation at Senki Park, where they apprehended Johnson Dulom (29), a resident of the locality. During a search of his residence, police recovered 12 plastic vials containing suspected heroin, weighing approximately 15 grams (including the plastic containers). Officers also seized ₹13,100 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from drug trafficking.

Police stated that the house search, personal search and seizure were conducted in strict compliance with the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in the presence of a Gazetted Officer and independent witnesses.

During sustained interrogation, Johnson Dulom allegedly disclosed the identity of his supplier. Acting swiftly on the lead, the Special Action Team, accompanied by SDPO Itanagar Shri Chera Saban, APPS, and Investigating Officer Inspector Hage Loder of Niti Vihar Police Station, intercepted and apprehended the suspected supplier, Duri Dakpe, along NH-415 near 6 Kilo, Itanagar.

Following all mandatory legal procedures under the NDPS Act, police searched the accused and recovered 17 plastic vials containing suspected heroin from his Honda Dio scooter. They also seized ₹4,580 in cash, believed to be proceeds of drug trafficking. The personal search and seizure were conducted in the presence of Ms. Mary Tanyang, Executive Magistrate and Circle Officer (CO), along with independent witnesses.

In total, the operation resulted in the seizure of 29 plastic vials containing suspected heroin and ₹17,680 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from illegal drug trafficking.

A case has been registered at Niti Vihar Police Station under Case No. 30/2026 under Sections 21(b) and 27A of the NDPS Act. Police said further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend other individuals linked to the drug trafficking network operating in the Capital Region.

The sustained anti-narcotics drive is being carried out by the Special Action Team (SAT) under the close supervision of SP Capital Itanagar Shri Jummar Basar as part of the Arunachal Pradesh Police's continued efforts to eliminate drug trafficking and substance abuse.

Reaffirming its commitment to a drug-free Capital Region, Capital Police Itanagar stated that the operation reflects the objectives of Operation Dawn 2.0 and Operation All Out, which aim to intensify enforcement against narcotics and dismantle organised drug networks across the state.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area.
