Army Soldier Killed, Two Injured in Dirang Truck Accident

DIRANG, June 26: 

One Army personnel lost his life while two others sustained injuries after an Indian Army truck met with a tragic accident on National Highway-13 near the 30 Battalion SSB campus in Dirang, West Kameng district, on Friday afternoon.

According to official sources, the vehicle belonging to the 18 Sikh Light Infantry was carrying three Army personnel and was on its way to the unit when the driver reportedly lost control of the truck along a hilly stretch of the highway. The vehicle crashed through the chain-link fence of the 30 Battalion Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) campus before plunging down a steep hillside.

On receiving information, the Rapid Rescue Team of the 30 Battalion SSB immediately rushed to the accident site and launched a rescue operation. The trapped soldiers were extricated from the mangled vehicle and evacuated to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

One of the injured personnel was administered first aid at the SSB Unit MI Room before being referred to the District Hospital in Bomdila. The other two were shifted to the Community Health Centre (CHC), Dirang. However, Subedar Surendar Singh succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

The two surviving Army personnel are currently undergoing treatment at the District Hospital, Bomdila, and CHC, Dirang. Hospital authorities said both remain under medical observation.

The exact cause of the accident has not yet been determined. Authorities have informed the concerned Army unit, and an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the circumstances leading to the mishap.

The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the region, with the Army and civil authorities closely monitoring the condition of the injured personnel while extending all necessary assistance.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area.
