Power Department Employee Dies of Electrocution in New Borguli

PASIGHAT, Sept 8: 

A 57-year-old Power Department employee died after suffering an electric shock while repairing a power-supply fault at New Borguli in East Siang district on Sunday night.

The deceased was identified as Baramdeo Pandit, a Work-Charged electrician posted under the Mebo Power Sub-Station.

Pandit was attending to a fault in a gang insulator supplying electricity to Seram, Kongkul, Namsing, Gadum, Mer and other villages in the Monggu Banggo area of Mebo subdivision.

According to Mebo Power Sub-Station Junior Engineer Ajoy Pertin, the incident occurred at around 9:18 pm when Pandit suffered an electric shock while working on the fault.

He sustained burn injuries and a head injury after falling from an electricity pole following the shock.

Pandit was immediately rushed to Bakin Pertin General Hospital in Pasighat, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

A native of Majilispur village under Allipur Hatta Post Office in Bihar’s Vaishali district, Pandit was the son of late Jhagaru Pandit.

He joined the Power Department as a casual electrician in June 1988 and had been posted at New Borguli since 1991. He was promoted to Work-Charged electrician in November 2023 and had served the department for more than 38 years.

Following the post-mortem examination and completion of necessary formalities, his mortal remains were sent to his native village in Bihar on Monday afternoon. Department officials said the remains reached his family home on Tuesday evening.

Pandit is survived by his wife, three sons and two daughters.

Remembering his long service, Pertin said Pandit played an important role in maintaining uninterrupted power supply across the Monggu Banggo areas under Mebo subdivision.

“He was punctual, dutiful, sincere and a genuinely noble human being. His untimely demise is an immense and irreparable loss to the Monggu Banggo area in particular and to the department as a whole,” Pertin said.

Meanwhile, Mebo MLA Oken Tayeng expressed deep sorrow over Pandit’s death and extended condolences to his bereaved family, friends and colleagues.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic demise of Shri Baramdeo Pandit, a dedicated staff member of the Power Department posted at New Borguli, who passed away in an unfortunate electrocution incident,” Tayeng wrote on social media.

The MLA said Pandit’s death was particularly painful as he had been living alone at his place of posting, away from his family in Bihar.

“May the departed soul rest in eternal peace, and may the Almighty give his loved ones the strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss,” Tayeng added.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student.
