Namsai Police Recover 34 Children in Trafficking Case

NAMSAI, September 6: 

Namsai Police have traced and recovered 38 people, including 34 children and four adults, in a major development in an ongoing suspected child trafficking and illegal placement case.

The recovery was made during the investigation into Namsai P.S. Case No. 54/2026, as police continued efforts to trace people allegedly connected with the case from different locations.

The investigation is being led by Dy.SP Kengo Dirchi, the Investigating Officer, under the supervision of Sangey Thinley, Superintendent of Police, Namsai District.

Police have also arrested four alleged facilitators in connection with the case. The latest arrest is that of Rupali Padung, whose alleged involvement in the transportation and placement of the victims is being examined as part of the investigation.

According to Namsai Police, the investigation is now focused on identifying the complete chain of people allegedly involved in the transportation and placement of the children and other persons.

Investigators are also examining financial transactions, electronic evidence and other links that may help establish how the alleged network operated.

The people with whom the children were allegedly placed are also being questioned as part of the investigation. Police said the circumstances and individual roles of these persons are being verified before further legal action is taken wherever warranted by the evidence.

The parents and guardians of the children are also being examined to establish the circumstances surrounding their movement and placement.

The Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Namsai, and the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Namsai, are providing coordination and support to the investigation, particularly in matters concerning the care and protection of the children.

The agencies are also assisting with counselling, rehabilitation and welfare measures for the children who have been traced and recovered.

As of September 6, police have reported the recovery of 38 persons, comprising 34 children and four adults, while four persons have been arrested in connection with the case.

Namsai Police said their efforts will continue to identify the entire network and take appropriate legal action against every person whose involvement is established during the investigation.

The police have also stressed that the identities and personal details of the children are being kept confidential in accordance with the law.

Further investigation into the case is underway.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area.
