Naharlagun Police Arrest Two in Knife-Point Snatching Case

NAHARLAGUN, September 14: 

Naharlagun Police have arrested two persons in connection with an alleged knife-point snatching incident reported in the Naharlagun Police Station area, recovering a knife, ₹4,500 in suspected proceeds and the scooter allegedly used in the crime.

According to a press release issued by the Office of the Superintendent of Police, ICR Naharlagun, the incident occurred on September 12, 2026, when a 26-year-old man involved in supplying chocolates, food items and other eatables was returning towards Naharlagun after making deliveries.

At around 12:04 pm, near the turn close to G-Sector Secondary School, two unidentified persons riding a red-coloured Aprilia scooter allegedly intercepted him by blocking his scooter.

Police said that, according to the complaint, one of the accused allegedly displayed a knife and placed it near the complainant's stomach before snatching ₹10,000 from his pocket. The two suspects then allegedly fled from the spot on their scooter.

Following the complaint, Naharlagun Police Station registered Case No. 122/2026 under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation.

Police subsequently identified and apprehended the alleged accused as Kabak Lapang, 19, son of Kabak Tapak, and Takam Dai, 26, son of Takam Talik.

During the investigation, police recovered the knife allegedly used in the offence along with approximately ₹4,500, which police suspect to be part of the proceeds of the crime. The scooter allegedly used by the accused was also traced and taken into police custody.

Superintendent of Police, ICR Naharlagun, Dr Nyelam Nega, APPS, said the police remain committed to ensuring public safety and taking swift and lawful action against persons involved in street crimes.

The arrests and recoveries are based on the police account contained in the September 14 press release; the allegations will be subject to the ongoing legal process. A search of current web results did not locate an independent report confirming the specific case details.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. NNMR Seeks Action Against Yachuli MLA Over Podum Remarks

 ITANAGAR, September 15: The Nyishi Nyidung Mwngjwng Rallung (NNMR) has submitted a complaint to the Speaker of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly seeking action against Yachuli MLA Toko Tatung over remarks concerning the traditional Nyishi Podum/Byopia headgear.
