Enforcement Drive Conducted in Yupia & Tigdo

YUPIA, September 4: 

A joint market inspection and enforcement drive was conducted on September 4, 2026, across the Yupia and Tigdo areas of Papum Pare district.

The inspection covered markets and commercial establishments in and around Holy Kids Public School, Euro Kids Pre-School, Nyorch and Yupia-II Market.

The drive was led by Trade Development Officer Sorang Yapa and focused primarily on compliance with Trading Licence requirements and restrictions on the sale of tobacco products near educational institutions.

During the inspection, five shops were found operating without valid Trading Licences, while another two shops were found with expired licences.

A total of ₹7,500 was collected in penalties from shops found violating the applicable requirements.

The enforcement team also seized tobacco products from defaulting shops operating near school premises. In addition, nine quarter bottles of whisky and two packets of beer were seized during the operation.

The team also used the inspection to create awareness among shopkeepers about the importance of complying with licensing requirements and restrictions governing sales near educational institutions.

Shopkeepers were advised to obtain or renew their Trading Licences within 30 days and to ensure that their establishments remain compliant with the rules.

They were also specifically directed to refrain from stocking, displaying or selling tobacco products within 100 yards of school compounds.

Officials warned that repeat violations will invite stricter legal action under the applicable provisions.

The enforcement drive is part of efforts to improve regulatory compliance in local markets and strengthen restrictions on the availability of tobacco products around educational institutions.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area.
