West Siang Police Destroy 128 Modified Silencers in Aalo

AALO, August 4: 

In a major crackdown on illegal vehicle modifications, the West Siang District Police have destroyed 128 modified silencers seized from two-wheelers during a special enforcement drive conducted over the last six months in and around Aalo township.

The drive was launched under the direction of Superintendent of Police Shri Kardak Riba, APPS, and supervised by DySP (HQ) Shri Taba Biroy. 

On-ground operations were led by SI Gumdo Ete, Officer-in-Charge of Traffic Aalo, and Inspector Yomken Riram, Officer-in-Charge of Aalo Police Station.

After obtaining permission from the Deputy Commissioner of West Siang, all the seized modified silencers were destroyed using a JCB. 

The destruction was carried out in the presence of Assistant Commissioner and Town Magistrate Shri Jumkar Karbi.

Speaking to the media, SP Kardak Riba urged youngsters, especially college-going students, not to use modified silencers. 

He said such illegal modifications create excessive noise pollution, disturb students and residents, and violate the provisions of Sections 190 and 52 of the Motor Vehicles Act.

The SP said that, as a deterrent measure, only the modified silencers of first-time offenders have been confiscated and destroyed. However, those caught violating the law again will face much stricter action.

He warned that repeat offenders will have their vehicles seized and produced before the court. Cases will also be registered against the owners, and they may face imprisonment of up to six months.

The SP also appealed to parents not to allow children below 18 years of age to ride two-wheelers. 

He reminded the public that such violations attract a fine of ₹25,000, and parents or guardians can also be held legally responsible.

The West Siang District Police reiterated their commitment to ensuring safer roads and a noise-free environment in Aalo and adjoining areas, adding that strict enforcement against illegal vehicle modifications will continue.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. NNMR Seeks Action Against Yachuli MLA Over Podum Remarks

 ITANAGAR, September 15: The Nyishi Nyidung Mwngjwng Rallung (NNMR) has submitted a complaint to the Speaker of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly seeking action against Yachuli MLA Toko Tatung over remarks concerning the traditional Nyishi Podum/Byopia headgear. In its representation dated September 14, 2026, the organisation alleged that Tatung made a “misleading” statement about the origin and development of the traditional headgear during the Motion of Thanks to the Governor’s Address in the Assembly on March 11, 2025. According to the complaint, Tatung had questioned the originality of the traditional Podum and suggested that the modern artificial version was started by a Christian man.
