Tawang Police Conduct Cleanliness Drive at Stadium

Tawang, August 17: 

District Police Tawang conducted a cleanliness drive at the Gyalwa Tsangyang Gyatso High Altitude Outdoor Stadium on August 17 under the initiative of Superintendent of Police Tasi Darang.

The drive was organised after the conclusion of the Merag Lama Lodroe Gyatso Independence Cup 2026 football tournament on August 15. Following the tournament, the stadium premises were left with a large quantity of waste and garbage.

SP Tasi Darang, DySP (HQ) Togum Gonggo, RO Genden Thupten, ARO T.D. Sermo, CHM Karsang Monpa and officials of the Reserve Police Line took part in the cleanliness drive.

The police team collected a substantial quantity of garbage from different parts of the stadium premises. 

The initiative helped restore cleanliness at the venue following the large public gathering during the football tournament.

The drive was also aimed at encouraging people to keep public spaces and their surroundings clean and hygienic. Tawang Police used the initiative to promote responsible waste disposal and greater public participation in maintaining a clean environment.

The activity formed part of the department’s community-policing efforts and was also intended to strengthen tourism policing in Tawang. 

By taking part in such community-oriented activities, the police sought to build closer ties and greater trust between the department and the public.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
