Tawang Electoral Roll Observer Reviews Ongoing SIR Process

Electoral Roll Observer for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls in Tawang district, Yeshi Wangmu (Y.W.) Ringu, IAS, Commissioner (Finance), Government of Arunachal Pradesh, reviewed the ongoing revision process in Tawang on Wednesday.
The review meeting was attended by Tawang MLA Namgey Tsering, Lungla MLA Tsering Lhamu, ZPC Tawang Leki Gombu, ZPM Tawang Sonam Nordzin, ZPM Kyidphel Tenzin Yendra and ZPM Mogto Pema Tsering.
District presidents or representatives of the BJP, PPA and AAP, along with Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and other officials involved in the revision exercise also participated.
The meeting began with a detailed presentation on the progress of the SIR across the district. Deo Tawang Tawang Namgyal Angmo, IAS, briefed the Observer on the status of claims and objections received so far across all three Assembly Constituencies of Tawang district.
The Observer sought constituency-wise details on additions and deletions, daily hearings and the progress of EROs and AEROs in disposing of claims and objections. She also reviewed which constituencies had recorded the highest number of additions and deletions.
Representatives of political parties shared their observations and views during the open discussion. Tawang MLA Namgey Tsering suggested that minor discrepancies in names and other particulars in the electoral roll may, wherever permitted under the rules, be considered by the concerned EROs and AEROs after proper verification.
Ringu appreciated the BLOs for their continued support and dedicated work at the grassroots level. She directed them to ensure that any pending forms are uploaded without delay.
She also instructed officials to fix hearings immediately after receiving claims and objections so that applicants and aggrieved persons receive timely information and have adequate opportunity to produce the required documents.
Emphasising the importance of following established procedures, the Observer directed election officials to properly preserve all documents and records related to the revision process. She also stressed that the instructions issued by the Election Commission of India must be followed in letter and spirit.
“Go by the rules and follow the instructions issued by the Election Commission. If there is any doubt, seek clarification from your superiors or experienced officials,” she said, stressing the need to work strictly according to the prescribed rules.
She further emphasised accurate and factual reporting at every stage of the SIR and called for transparency, proper documentation and due diligence throughout the exercise.
The Observer said the revision process must be conducted carefully and in accordance with the prescribed guidelines to ensure a clean, accurate, inclusive and error-free electoral roll.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from election officials, elected representatives, political parties and other stakeholders to safeguard the integrity of the electoral roll and ensure that every eligible citizen gets a fair opportunity for enrolment under the prescribed rules.
