Safai Sathis, Teesri Aankh Honoured in Itanagar

ITANAGAR, August 15: 

The Itanagar Municipal Corporation’s (IMC) Safai Sathis and Teesri Aankh initiatives were honoured during the Independence Day  programme at CM Residence for their contribution to making the Capital Region cleaner, safer and better managed.

The programme was hosted by Chief Minister Pema Khandu and was attended by Governor Lt Gen KT Parnaiak (Retd), First Lady Smt. Anagha Parnaiak and other distinguished guests on the occasion of India’s 80th Independence Day.

The Safai Sathis initiative, with 100 Safai Sathis, has been supporting sanitation and cleanliness efforts across the Capital Region. 

The recognition highlights the important role of sanitation workers in keeping public spaces clean and improving the city’s overall environment.

The Teesri Aankh (Third Eye) initiative uses CCTV surveillance to tackle illegal garbage dumping and strengthen cleanliness monitoring. Under the initiative, 239 solar-powered CCTV cameras have been deployed across the Capital Region.

The surveillance network helps monitor public spaces, roads and other vulnerable locations where unauthorised waste dumping can take place. 

It is also intended to help the IMC identify violators and take action under applicable waste-management rules.

Together, the two initiatives combine the work of sanitation personnel with technology-based monitoring to address cleanliness challenges in Itanagar. 

The efforts are aimed at encouraging greater civic responsibility and ensuring that waste is disposed of through the proper system.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu said a cleaner city requires everyone to step up, stressing that Itanagar is our city and keeping it clean is a shared responsibility.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
