Namsai Police Seize ₹16.40 Lakh Suspected Heroin, One Arrested

NAMSAI, August 5: 

In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Namsai Police arrested an alleged drug peddler and seized 82 grams of suspected heroin with an estimated illicit market value of ₹16.40 lakh during a search operation at Solungtoo Village.

The accused has been identified as Osina Chautang, a resident of Solungtoo Village in Namsai district. Police also recovered other incriminating articles from the residence during the operation.

The raid was launched after police received credible information about the alleged possession of narcotic substances. Authorities followed all mandatory procedures under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 before conducting the search.

The information was formally recorded and communicated to the Superintendent of Police as required under Section 42 of the NDPS Act. A General Diary entry was also made before the police team proceeded to the location.

The search was conducted in the presence of two independent local witnesses, including executive members of the All Namsai Area Youth Association (ANAYA). 

The entire operation was also videographed using the e-Sakshya application to ensure transparency.

Following the recovery, Osina Chautang was arrested and a case has been registered at Namsai Police Station under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act.

During preliminary interrogation, the accused allegedly revealed that the suspected heroin had been procured from outside the district for further distribution. 

Police said this disclosure is being verified as part of the ongoing investigation.

Investigators are now working to trace the source of the narcotics, identify suppliers and buyers, and dismantle the wider drug trafficking network operating in the region.

The operation was led by Dy. SP Kengo Dirchi, SDPO Namsai, along with Inspector T. Gadi, SI Sanjay Kumar, LSI S. Thoumoung and other police personnel. It was carried out under the overall supervision of Superintendent of Police Sangey Thinley, APPS.

Namsai District Police thanked ANAYA members for assisting as independent witnesses during the search and reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking. 

Police also appealed to the public to continue sharing credible information on narcotics and other criminal activities, assuring that the identity of informants will remain strictly confidential.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area.
