Naharlagun Police Seize 6.39 Kg Cannabis, One Arrested

NAHARLAGUN, Aug 20: 

Naharlagun Police have arrested a 22-year-old man, identified as Tachung Beyong, for allegedly peddling cannabis in the Boda Namchi–Nirjuli area.

Acting on information, police intercepted Beyong and conducted a search of his scooter.

 The search led to the recovery of 34 grams of suspected cannabis packed in three packets and another 910 grams packed in 74 packets.

Police subsequently searched his rented room, where they recovered an additional 5.44 kg of suspected cannabis. The total quantity of suspected cannabis seized in the operation was approximately 6.39 kg.

Police also recovered ₹27,400 in cash during the operation.

Following due legal procedures, Naharlagun Police registered a case vide NLG/PS/Case No. 105/2026 under Sections 20(b)(II)(B)/29 of the NDPS Act.

The accused has been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway to establish the source of the contraband and identify any other persons who may be involved.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area.
