‘Modi Chalisa’ Chanted at Delhi Press Club

NEW DELHI, Aug 20: 

A group associated with Bihar’s transgender community performed an aarti of a cut-out of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and recited a “Modi Chalisa” at the Press Club of India in New Delhi on Thursday.

The event drew widespread attention after videos of the gathering surfaced online. Participants also raised slogans including “Jai-Jai Modi.”

The gathering was reportedly organised as a press briefing. The Press Club of India later clarified that it had only rented out the venue and was not associated with or endorsing the proceedings.

The event has also brought renewed attention to an unusual proposal announced last month by Dr Rajan Singh, a member of the Bihar State Transgender Welfare Board, to construct a temple dedicated to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Patna.

According to reports, Singh presented the proposal at a meeting of the Bihar State Transgender Welfare Board, where it was approved before being sent for further government consideration.

The proposed project is estimated to require five acres of land and ₹112 crore in government funding. However, the Bihar government has not sanctioned or allocated the land or funds.

Singh has said the proposed temple is intended as a tribute to what he considers the Modi government’s contribution to the transgender community.

He has particularly cited the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019 as one of the government’s contributions.

The proposed temple, however, has not been sanctioned or constructed. The request for land and funds remains subject to the state government’s decision-making process.

With Singh linked to both the temple proposal and the latest Delhi event, Thursday’s “Modi Chalisa” gathering has added another striking chapter to an initiative that has already generated considerable public debate.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
