Kiren Rijiju, MPs Appeal for Peace Along Assam-Arunachal Border

NEW DELHI, August 13: 

Union Minister and Arunachal Pradesh MP Kiren Rijiju, along with MPs from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, has appealed for peace and restraint along the inter-state border amid heightened tensions following the Badati–Mingmang incident.

In a video message shared on social media on Thursday, Rijiju said MPs from both states had come together to appeal for the maintenance of peace along the border.

Rijiju said people of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh must continue to live together harmoniously “as brothers and sisters” and stressed that any land dispute should be settled through peaceful negotiations.

The appeal comes amid the economic blockade announced by the Takam Missing Porin Kébang (TMPK) against Arunachal Pradesh over the Badati–Mingmang incident.

TMPK supporters have reportedly blocked several Assam-side entry points to Arunachal Pradesh, including Hollongi, Namchik, Shantipur, Bhalukpong, Banderdewa and Gumto.

The situation also escalated after Itanagar DySP (Traffic) Maga Tago and his team were allegedly attacked by protesters at Gogamukh while travelling to attend a court hearing.

 Tago was later taken to a nearby hospital as a precautionary measure.

Rijiju’s appeal comes as tensions remain high along the Assam–Arunachal border, with the latest message calling for restraint and dialogue to prevent further escalation.

The MPs emphasised the importance of maintaining peace and preserving the longstanding ties between communities on both sides of the border.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
