IMD Warns of Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall in Arunachal Till August 5

ITANAGAR, Aug. 2: 

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Meteorological Centre Itanagar, has issued an impact-based weather forecast warning predicting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and heavy to very heavy rainfall across several districts of Arunachal Pradesh from August 3 to August 5.

According to the forecast, Papum Pare has been placed under the highest alert, with very heavy rainfall (12–20 cm in 24 hours) likely at isolated places on both August 3–4 and August 4–5. Thunderstorms with lightning are also expected during the period.

On August 3–4, Kurung Kumey and Longding are likely to receive heavy rainfall (6–11 cm in 24 hours), while Papum Pare is expected to witness very heavy rainfall.

For August 4–5, heavy rainfall is forecast over Kurung Kumey, East Siang and Lohit, while East Kameng and Papum Pare are likely to experience very heavy rainfall at isolated locations.

The IMD has cautioned that the adverse weather may trigger flash floods, landslides, waterlogging, falling trees, reduced visibility and disruption of road connectivity, particularly in vulnerable and hilly areas. 

Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall, stay away from rivers and landslide-prone slopes, and follow advisories issued by the district administrations and disaster management authorities.

The weather department has urged the public to remain vigilant as the prevailing monsoon conditions are expected to keep the state under the influence of widespread rainfall over the next few days.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
